Denis - Jestin: The Flight of Frisbees

  • This experiment is testing the attack angles & various shapes of a frisbee in its flight. The goal is to determine what will cause the frisbee to fly the furthest distance. We chose this topic to find the best technique and frisbee shape to have the most success in a game of ultimate frisbee or disc golf.

Meadow - Shaan: The Effect of Practice Pad Material on the Rebound Angle of a Drumstick

  • Our topic is to find which practice pad material provides a stick rebound closest to that of a marching snare drum. We want to help marching percussionists reduce the effects of adjusting playing-style when switching between playing on a pad and playing on a marching snare drum.

Megan - Liz: How does Temperature Affect the Efficacy of Antibiotics?

  • This experiment looks at the efficacy of antibiotics on Escherichia coli and the impact of different body temperatures. As many people know, when someone is experiencing an infection, the body reacts by producing a fever. Many times, doctors will prescribe antibiotics to treat the infection. However, sometimes people only take 2 days to feel better with the antibiotics, but some take longer than a week to feel better. This research gives us an insight into if body temperature affects how well the antibiotics work.

Payton-Delaney:How Different Buffers Affect Acidity and Dental Erosive Effect of Coca-Cola

  • The goal of this experiment is to determine how tap water, 2% milk, lubricity artificail saliva, and fluoride affect the erosive effect of Coca-Cola. We want to know how different substances can help prevent the deterioration of teeth, and whether or not these substances can be added to Coca-Cola's composition to make it less dangerous to tooth enamel.

Ayaan - Ryan - Vincent: How Do Different Vinegars Affect Common Fruit Fungus, Penicillium notatum

  • The goal is to find out what type of vinegar is best for storing fruits. We want to help reduce food waste by minimizing food rot.

Bradley - Corbin: Testing environmentally-friendly flame retardants against commonly-used industrial flame retardants

  • Our research is in an attempt to prove the effectiveness of a more green alternative in comparison to the normally environmentally-damaging, commonly-used flame retardant. We have always had a fascination with fire and the destruction it causes. We gravitated toward the idea of preventing fire spread and damage and are focusing on flame retardants and the need for an environmentally-safer solution.

Lourdes - Julie: Evaluating the efficacy of streptomycin and erythromycin as alternatives to penicillin

  • We are testing to see how well penicillin alternatives perform as antibiotics when compared to penicillin. We hope to find if penicillin alternatives are suitable alternatives for those with penicillin allergies and communities who may not have immediate access to penicillin.
